Raw Data: Gender Ratio Part 2

Ratio of Female to Male Characters (from 2008-2012)

All First Billed Characters from the Cast Overview list (ALL CHARACTERS)

Looking at only American, or American/Foreign Coproduced Animated Films Rated G or PG that were released in at least 500 theaters. If the film contained live action scenes, it primarily had to be about the animated characters set in an animated world

Each named or described* character was counted (even if they had the same voice actor)
Each character was counted only once (even if played by multiple voice actors, or in the case of Igor, one character appeared to be multiple characters)
“Additional voices” “background voices” and uncredited voice actors were not counted
The gender of the character was counted, not the gender of the voice actor
Narrators were counted as the gender of the voice, even if they don’t have a physical character
*because Christmas Carol was motion capture, characters listed only as “dancer” with no additional descriptor were treated as additional or background and were not counted
